North Fork Long Island New York
"Our 2006 Merlot – often cited as the quintessential Long Island wine – blends grapes from all three of our estate owned properties: Bedell Cellars vineyards on the Long Island Sound; Wells Road Vineyard on a relatively high elevation sandy loam outcropping; and Corey Creek Vineyards on the Peconic Bay. The wine shows a complex nose of blueberry, cassis, and tobacco, while maintaining those nuances throughout the palate, and anchored by the classic Long Island graphite character. This Merlot spent 16 months in French oak, 44% of which was new. The winemaking team employed four different fermentation regimes to maximize vineyard soil and clonal characteristics in different harvested lots. These exacting and detailed fermentation practices included native yeast fermentations and an extensive barrel stirring (battonage) program to achieve an extraordinarily well-integrated and complete palate profile." ~Winery Notes
