A note from Charles re 2011 vintage:
The color is even more pale pink than last year which is kind of deceiving given the punch of flavor it carries. Particularly in the direct to press production method (no skin/juice contact other than the tractor ride from the pick to the winery) there isnt a lot of color pick up but added to that the increased amount of cinsault in this years blend. We are big believers of cinsault in rose so for the last 5 years have been encouraging our growers to plant more of it for us and its finally coming on line. Cinsault is quite common everywhere in Provence except in our AOC, Coteaux dAix.
The 2011 vintage was a bit cooler than the last resulting in a rose thats not quite as opulent but with greater spice and layers of complexity. There is the usual and wonderful underlying raspberry, bing cherry, and wild strawberry with a spicy minerality that keeps the fruit in check. The acidity is a bit brighter than the 09. "
