"Grown in calcareous clay soils at 1,350 feet, this balances ripe cherry and plum fruit with savory tannins. The structure softens with air, showing the heat of the season in the wine's gentle tannins, yet there's a bright core of acidity to retain focus. Drinking well now, with lasting flavors of dried rose, cherry and earth, this is a good match for braised lamb shanks. "

"Here's a modern, oak-driven Taurasi that puts an emphasis on spice and chocolate aromas, although the black cherry and blackberry preserves are evident in the background. This is a firm, solid and sophisticated wine that would pair with braised lamb in a truffle sauce. "
Delicious and worth it - I usually drink wines in the $10-$15 range. For a special occasion, I might go up to $30. We drank this wine on the Amalfi Coast (and paid far too much for it). But it is definitely worth Empire's price. Rich and complex, but not overwhelming.
