Domaine Simon Blanchard 'Au Champ de la Fenetre' 2015 image
Posted Feb 4, 2018

"This wine from a "new breed" Bordeaux producer is 100% merlot. A little unusual for a classification of wines that are typically blends. This works though. A little tight at first, but opens up nicely in the glass. Beautifully perfumed, with softening tannins, and hints of chocolate and cherry. We Enjoyed this last night with roast chicken and roasted root veggies. Spot on."

"A beautiful Rioja. Soft, balanced, with just enough tannins to stand up to everything on the Thanksgiving table.....even the pumpkin pie! Enjoy the holidays!"

Herencia Altes Benufet Garnacha Blanca 2015 image
Posted Aug 21, 2017

"If you want to think outside the box, try this tasty garnacha blanca from Spain. Nice acidity like a Sancere with a hint of stone fruit such as peach. Perfect for this time of year. Any kind of shellfish should pair well with this wine. Enjoy this while summer is still here!"

Domaine Pelaquie 'Laudun' Cotes du Rhone 2014 image

"Black cherry and ripe plum accentuate this delicious and easy drinking wine. Deep purple in color, beautifully balanced tannin and fruit. Just the right amount of residual sugar to pair well with grilled chicken thighs."

Potel Aviron Fleurie Vieilles Vignes 2010 image
Posted Apr 9, 2017

"This wine from Fleurie, one of the most popular crus in Beaujolais is delightful. Hints of lavender and other herbs on the nose. Bright ripe fruit and a hint of vanilla on the pallette, with a lighter style, but still quite a bit of heft. Pair this elegant wine with roast chicken, or maybe braised veal."

Antiche Terre Amarone della Valp 2012 image
Posted Feb 26, 2017

"If you've ever wanted to try an Amarone but didn't want to dip into the college fund, now is your chance. Made from thedried corvina grape, this wine is a full bodied red. Dried fig and and mocha on the nose, almost port like in character. Delicious. Amarone is heralded by many as the greatest Italian red. Grab this beauty before it's gone and enjoy it with a roast, or a nice ripe cheese."

Grand Moulin (Barbet) Beaujolais 2011 image
Posted Nov 6, 2016

"What ever you thought about beaujolais, throw it out the window. This beautifully perfumed wine is made with a much longer maceration time, and 9 months in barrel. Dark ruby in color, rich earthiness, and very soft in tannins. I can't think of a better under $20 choice for the thanksgiving table."

Tikves Wines 'Barovo' Red Blend 2012 image
Posted Oct 2, 2016

"If you want to try something different, well, this is it. From Macedonia, this wine is made from 2 indigenous grapes found only in this region,Kratosija and Vranac, the latter reminding me of zinfandel. Deep, dark, and rich. Full of plum, hints of cchocolate, and nice balanced tannins. Just in time for fall. Enjoy it with beef stew or maybe roast lamb."

Gerard Boulay Sancerre 'Chavignol' 2015 image
Posted Aug 1, 2016

"Like the winery notes say, this Sancerre is truly "racy". Bright acidity paired with profound citrus notes, along with the minerality that sancerre is famous for. An ideal wine with lighter seafood fare or soft mild cheeses. Try this in place of your usual New Zealand Suav Blanc."

Vinos Pinol Ludovicus 2013 image
Posted Jul 1, 2016

"This delightful Garnacha is from Terra Alta, close to the famed region of Priorat in the north east of Spain. A medium bodied, juicy offering. Full of dried fruit with a touch of oak, and a hint of sweetness. Uncomplicated and easy to drink, it will pair beautifully with BBQ ribs or chicken. Welcome summer with this great wine. I've seen this at $8/9 a glass in restaurants. A no brainer at $10.95."

Uccelliera Rosso di Montalcino 2013 image
Posted May 2, 2016

"For those of you who have never had a Brunello, this is a stepping stone to be introduced the king of Tuscan reds. This Rosso Di Montalcino, aka "baby Brunello", is a beautiful expression of dark cherry and plum notes, medium to full bodied, and nicely balanced tannins. Uccelliera is a top notch producer, and this paticular wine is a steal this price. Enjoy it with pasta and a hearty sausage sauce."

Chalk Hill 'Estate Bottled' Sauvignon Blanc 2013 image
Posted Mar 29, 2016

"From a high end california producer, this sauv blanc shows nice bright acidity along with a slightly fuller body. Not a lot of citrus, but a pleasant hint of peach. With the warm weather just around the corner, it's almost time to get outside, grill some shrimp, crack this open and enjoy."

Francois Chidaine Touraine Rouge 2014 image
Posted Feb 23, 2016

"This blend from Touraine in the loire is delicious. Cab franc, malbec (aka Cot), and pineau d' aunis, (a grape only grown in Touraine) blend seamlessly to express ripe cherry and other dark fruits. Low acidity and mild tannins make this a beautifully balanced wine. Pair with grilled lamb kabobs. A steal at $12.95!"

Chateau Saint-Roch 'Kerbuccio' Maury Sec 2012 image
Posted Oct 26, 2015

"I have been on a mission. Tasting as many wines from this region is a pleasure. This wine is no exception. From the new appellation of Maurey Sec, is Lafages Kerbuccio. A claccis GSM, (Grenache, Syrah,Mouvedre). Full bodied, with rich dark fruit like plum. Also a rich earthiness witch makes me want to pair this with a lamb shank braise, or a hearty lamb stew. Enjoy this beauty to warm up the cold nights."

Charles Smith 'Velvet Devil' Merlot 2013 image
Posted Oct 12, 2015

"A fiendishly smooth blend of 91% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon from Washington's Charles Smith."

Vina Bujanda Reserva 2009 image
Posted Sep 6, 2015

"This Rioja made with 100% Tempernillo offers up nice black fruit. Medium to full body that I would describe as "juicy". Pairs well with any grilled meat, especially a nice steak. Just enough tannins to stand up to rich food. Or,as always,no food needed, enjoy it in its own."

Chateau Lascaux Coteaux du Languedoc 2012 image
Posted Aug 3, 2015

"This GSM from the landuedoc is basically the same blend as the great Chateneufs at a fraction of the price. This up and coming region produces great full bodied reds that pair beautifully with lamb or a grilled NY sirloin. Or as always, on its own."

Chateau Pesquie 'Cuvee des Terrasses' Rose 2014 image
Posted Jun 16, 2015

"From the ventoux in southern Rhone, this very light cuvee is reminiscent of a provence rose probably due to its proximity. A blend of cinsault, grenache, and a little syrah. Strawberry, peach and citrus mingle on the tounge. A beautifully refreshing wine, pairing nicely with grilled pork tenderloin."

Orin Swift Locations 'Corse' Corsica Vermentino NV image
Posted May 12, 2015

"Although most people perceive vermentino to come from Italy, it does nicely on Corsica. This offering from Orin Swift gives up vanilla and pear initially, then stone fruits. Bright, lively, and crisp. Great summer wine. Pair it with any shellfish, or grilled tuna. Or,like any wine, just share with friends."

Badenhorst Secateurs Chenin Blanc 2013 image
Posted Apr 11, 2014

"I love this wine. Nice and crisp, with peachy undertones. Nice bright acid without the citrus that a lot of sauvignon blancs can display. I have chicken on the grill right now. This "steen"will accompany it nicely. Get out there."

Tikves Wines Barovo 2010 image
Posted Mar 4, 2014

"This is my staff pick for march. Our theme,(say goodbye to winter) reds. This wine is a 50/50 blend of 2 native macedonian grapes, vranec and kratosija. Deep purple in color, full bodied, and plenty of dry fruit. Similar to a california zin without the jammyness that they can often be. So in keeping with our theme, slap a ribeye on the grill, pour a glass, raise it to the sky, and say adios to winter!"
