What’s in Calissano Vermouth Bianco? Pure Gavi DOCG; a selection of twelve different kinds of herbs and spices. Sweet and persistent citrus note combined with a spicy complexity that comes mainly from turmeric, zedoary, and cardamom. Complex, pleasantly sweet and with a long, lingering palate. Excellent both as an aperitif, neat or on the rocks with orange zest, or as an ingredient in classic international cocktails. Great at the end of a meal and, last but not least, an excellent meditation wine. ~winery notes
The rolling Langhe hills have always been real wine country and Luigi Calissano founded his winery here. Bearing his name, it was conceived with a surprisingly modern outlook and managed with true business intuition.Calissano makes not only the great Langhe reds but also Classic Method sparkling wines and, above all, vermouth, the aromatized wine served at every Piedmontese table.
It was not only local consumption to drive growth: in the early nineteenth century Luigi Calissano & Figli opened to overseas markets, even setting up a facility in New York.
Thanks to pioneers like Calissano, vermouth reached consumers worldwide, becoming a trend that is still very much in vogue.
Even today, after 150 years, Calissano is one of the most venerable vermouth producers and is ready for a comeback.
