"Raspberry cobbler, candied watermelon rind, caramel, peanuts, and violets on the nose. The palate is earthy and malty, balanced against sweeter notes of Juicy Fruit gum, cherry cola, and semi-sweet chocolate. Water brings out spice, along with caramel, brown sugar, and generous oak influence. On the finish, toasted oak is balanced against notes of raspberry jam and chocolate-covered strawberries. Pleasant and luscious, with pronounced but balanced spice. Reviewed by: David Fleming (Spring 2021)"

Tasting Notes
"New Riffs house style may be most closely associated with a love of rye grain (as evidenced by the high-rye mash bill in New Riffs core Bottled in Bond Bourbon), but the ability to experiment with various types of grain was built into the brands production model from day one and is now reflected in the release of New Riff Maltster Wheated Bourbon.

With a mash bill of 65 Corn, 18 Bohemian Floor-Malted Wheat, 10 Unmalted Wheat, and 7 Dark Wheat , this muscular bourbon is Bottled in Bond and aged a minimum of 5 years. Grain husk and breakfast bread open on the nose leading to a full-bodied palate of oak, dried currant, and a lingering highlight of grassy salinity. This is a chewy bourbon that hits the tastebuds in layers of grainy goodness. 50 ABV"

The Distillery
Founded in 2014 by Ken Lewis, a Kentucky liquor retailer and entrepreneur, New Riff crafts a range of whiskies with a focus on Bourbon and Rye as well as Kentucky Wild Gin. Independently and family-owned, the freedom from outside pressures and interests has allowed New Riff to set meaningful standards of quality, distinguishing them amongst the ranks of Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey distilleries. Although some of their practices are not necessarily new to the world of whiskey, it is unusual to find a distillery adhering simultaneously to so many traditional methods and with such an attention to detail. Sourcing non-GMO grains, using mineral-rich water from an aquifer below the distillery, allowing slow and open fermentation, distilling in copper only, and leaning heavily upon the strict stipulations of Bottled-in-Bond production, New Riff cuts no corners. Therefore, its no surprise that the accolades for this small distillery continue to grow.
