" Tawny and bright in the glass, this mellow, bittersweet beauty offers caramel and vanilla, braced by allspice and bitter orange. Although Nonino is best known for its grappas, this amaro, flavored with herbs from the mountains of Friuli, is worth seeking out. Consider it for dessert pairings or an edgy spin on a negroni. "

" Bright and rich amber color. Subtle aromas of red berries and dried herbs are enticing. Slightly sweet on the tongue, citrus flavors mixed with dried thyme and cinnamon create a nice balance between sweet and bitter. "

" Amaro Quintessentia was born a drop at a time in 1992, thanks to Antonio Noninos great experience in blending his products. It is an infusion of herbs with a part of E, aged over five years in barriques from Nevers, Limousin and ex-Sherry. It displays an extraordinary fragrance of mountain herbs, ennobled by the magic of E, in this case a masterful blend of Ribolla, Traminer, and Verduzzo. Noninos Amaro is based on Ue, or whole grape grappa and is infused with alpine herbs that grow in the mountains near the distillery. If you are not familiar with Amaro it is a classic Italian digestivo. " ~ Distillery notes

Amaro Nonino

Amaro NoninoAmaro Nonino Quintessentia is an digestif amaro made in Fruili, in northern Italy. It is grappa based, and infused with a blend of many herbs, spices and roots, including gentian, saffron, licorice, rhubarb, sweet and bitter orange, tamarind, quassia bark, chinchona bark, and galenga, among other things. It is a light reddish brown color and 70 proof.

Nonino is a bit less sweet, less bitter, and lighter in texture than other amari. It is aged for five years in oak barrels.
