Tasting Notes
"Deep amber copper color with an olive rim. Perfumed dried peach, apricot, sandalwood, and spicy golden raisin compote aromas. A soft, supple entry leads to a spicy, dryish medium-full body of caramelized roasted nuts, brown spices, suede, and melange of dried summer fruits and raisin. Finishes with a warming, palate-enveloping fade of fruits, nuts, and rich peppery spices. A delicious and intriguing dark rum that will make a big impression in any cocktail with its spicy oak influence. This is a great sipping rum commonly mistaken for whiskey. A perfect compliment to a cigar, it make a huge improvement to such cocktails like Manhattan's, Rob Roy's, Old-Fashions or a Crusta. It also performs well served on its own." ~ Distillery notes

The Spirit
Aged AOC Martinique Rhum agricole produced by Rhum J.M in Macouba, Martinique
Distilled from 100% estate-grown sugarcane on a Creole copper column still

Aged for a minimum of 4 years; 3 years in a combination of new American oak and re-charred ex-bourbon barrels, and at least one year in French oak barrels of varying capacity and char level
J.Ms characteristic grassy notes demure, allowing brioche, clove, and dehydrated lemon to inhabit the nose. A palate of crme caramel, chestnuts, and bananas sauted in browned butter lead to a dry finish of hay and Lady Grey tea.

The Estate
Rhum J.M produces AOC Rhum Agricole in the botanically lush hills of Macouba on Martiniques northern point. The estate, situated on the banks of the Roche River, represents an impressive lineage of rum distillation, beginning with Jean-Baptiste Labat, the Jesuit priest credited with improving sugar production and rum techniques on the island. Pre Labat sold his 400-acre estate and sugar refinery to Antoine Leroux-Prville in 1790, who subsequently sold the sugar factory to Jean-Marie Martin in 1845. Martin converted the sugar factory into a distillery and the brand Rhum J.M was born. Today, the original estate has grown to 1000 acres, and the trademark name of Rhum J.M has become synonymous with exemplary agricole rhum and a commitment to sustainability.

Rhum J.Ms sugarcane is 100% cultivated on the volcanic slopes of Habitation Bellevue, pressed within 24 hours of harvest, and distilled on a classic Creole copper column still. The resulting distillates joyously express Martiniques unique volcanic soil, tropical humidity from the low cloud ceiling, ventilation from the steady sea breeze onto the mountain side, and the excellent drainage in the sloping sugarcane fields.
About Rhum JM
In the late 17th century, Pére Labat, the famous Jesuit priest credited with proliferating sugar cultivation in the French West Indies, was the parish priest of Macouba while operating a sugar refinery at his house on the Roche River, where Rhum J.M is produced today. Antoine Leroux-Préville purchased the estate in 1790. In 1845, Antoine Leroux-Préville's daughters sold the property to Jean-Marie Martin, a merchant from Saint-Pierre. Jean-Marie Martin recognized the superior quality of the sugarcane he found on the Fonds-Préville estate and decided to shift the cultivation practices away from producing huge quantities of sugar and to focus on growing sugarcane to create a yield of the finest quality on the island. The sugarcane is 100% cultivated on the precious volcanic slopes of Habitation Bellevue. The rich sugarcane flavors in Rhum J.M are a result from this unique volcanic soil, tropical humidity from the low cloud ceiling, tremendous ventilation from the steady sea breeze onto the mountain side and the excellent drainage on the sloping sugarcane fields.
