"It (Doubleback) shows every sign of becoming the latest cult wine." -Harvey Steinman, Wine Spectator. Drew Bledsoe grew up in Walla Walla Washington, the heart of what would eventually become Washington's most famous wine region. After high school he pursued a highly successful football career, most notably playing as starting quarterback for the New England Patriots. After his retirement from the sport in 2007, he returned to his hometown to try his hand at producing wine. While Drew had been collecting wine for years, he knew he would need some help to get into making it. Luckily his neighbor growing up was the Figgins family, owners of the legendary Washington winery, Leonetti Cellar. He reconnected with his childhood friend Chris Figgins, now the winemaker for Leonetti, and following his guidance planted his estate vineyard, McQueen Vineyard in the heart of the Walla Walla Valley. Starting with the 2013 vintage the wine is made by John McDaniels, who mentored under Chris Figgins. Now with a few vintages under their belt, with critical praise to spare, Doubleback has proven that it deserves its place among the finest wines being produced in Walla Walla.
