Here again, the originality is at the rendezvous: while the vineyard of Chateauneuf-du-Pape is one of the most fragmented in France, the 20 hectares on which extends the field of the Font du Loup are one piece. This geographical configuration brings a nice unity to the range of aromas that the wines of the castle display. As for their singular finesse that never ceases to surprise, vintage after vintage, it is due to a soil composed mainly of sand, where pebbles usually reign supreme. Indeed, from a technical point of view, the sand is not normally conducive to the development of the vine because it retains the water badly. But at the Font du Loup, in addition to the famous source that brought down the wolves of Mont Ventoux, there is a large water table just 50 meters underground. Grenache, Syrah, and other Mourvèdres are never thirsty, or rather jute enough to refine their perfumes. Finally, the north-east orientation, the altitude of about 110 meters and the Mistral make the estate one of the coolest places in the appellation, with a slow maturation of the grapes.
Lychee, citrus blossom, apricot, fresh flowers and hints of mint all give way nice round profile and a beautiful freshness. Nice minerality too. Pairs great
