Dotted with fig trees, Pflüger's vineyards are also home to cypresses and sandstone walls that host countless species of beneficial insects and animals. Here, the diversity of life and soils yield terroir-driven wines that are vinified naturally in the cellar with indigenous yeasts and without filtering. From a family that's been making wine in the Rhine Valley since the early 1800's, Alexander Pflüger took over from his father in 2010, at the age of 29. Certified organic since 1989, the family's 20ha in Pfalz are planted to Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. After ten years of studying vines around the world, and how best to farm them, Alexander took to biodynamic farming in 2008, believing that one should follow nature's cycles when farming the land.
