The Fanti Family has been producing wine and-extra virgin olive oil in Tuscany for nearly 200 years and is now run by Filippo Fanti and his daughter Elisa. Today, the family encourages biodiversity by planting only 50 hectares of the 300-hectare property with grape vines, while the other plots of the property are designated to crops and woodlands. Eighty percent of these vineyards are Sangiovese or Sangiovese Grosso, a focus that reinforces the family's commitment to the quality wine of the region and which is reflected in Fanti's highly rated Brunello wines. Fanti is located in southern Montalcino, where the soil is laden with limestone and clay and optimal daytime sun exposure is followed by a nighttime thermal drop. The winery has avoided unnatural fertilizers or pest control in the vineyards and is in the process of converting to certified organic. Inside the winery, Elisa and Filippo have carefully selected everything, from the sorting table, stainless steel vats and pumpover system to a very high standard of barrel selection. As a result, Fanti continues to produce hallmark Southern Montalcino wines - bright red fruits laced with earth and leather - making exceptional wines for new wine drinkers and seasoned pros alike.
