After the grapes are harvested you ferment the juice into a delicious product that represents time, climate, geological environment and explicit care and tending to by the human hands. Winemaker Note: My name is Benjamin Nicholas and my goal is to make great wine from the different AVAs in the state of Virginia. I source grapes from various vineyards around the state in order to show the differences and unique characteristics between the farming, micro climates, grape varietals and terrior of the Virginia grape growing region. I was the cellar master at The Red Hook Winery after working there for 8 years under the instruction of 3 great winemakers Abe Schoener of the Scholium Project, Robert Foley of Robert Foley Vineyards and Christopher Nicolson who apprenticed at Littorai with winemaker Ted Lemon. I obtained a profound amount of practice and knowledge in the winemaking world. The Red Hook Winery, Brooklyn's first urban winery harbored an amazing way for consumers in an urban setting to drink great wine from the vineyards in the wine growing region of the state of New York. The winery would source fruit from multiple vineyards and AVAs to bring an over-arching "flavor of the New York wine region" I set out to bring the same essence to Per Annum Wine Co. with my Virginia wine.
