New York Times Recommended Hard To Find Whites

In a recent blog post, New York Times critic Eric Asimov reflected on the consistent lamentation of his readership; "the wines you discuss are impossible to find." I have chosen two of these "impossible to find" whites to celebrate spring and the promise of warmer weather. The first wine, Gaierhof Pinot Grigio 2011 was featured in Eric's piece entitled "The Enemy is Not Pinot Grigio." It tells the story of a grape loved by consumers but maligned by industry insiders. It was this bottle that won over the Times' tasting panel - and for good reason. It is an exceptional version packed with enticing flavors of melon, white peach, and minerals. I have also included Mr. Asimov's top pick from Savennieres. The article "The Thinking Person's White Wine" discusses his affinity for the intriguing style of Chenin Blanc produced in this under-celebrated sector of the Loire. Chateau Soucherie's 2010 Clos des Perrieres is indeed a hard-to-find wine, especially at a price like this!
