"The 2017 Sauvignon Blanc is unoaked and comes in at 13.3% alcohol. Bottled in October 2017, this had a nice long rest afterwards before tasting. For the unoaked whites, it is typically my favorite point in Alpha's lineup. This is curiously restrained—I've seen funkier versions, but more importantly, more intense ones. Many will be happy to tone down the funk, of course. The crisp edge and grip would be nicer to keep, but the round and smooth feel is appealing. (The oaked version is a bigger wine, typically.) No matter, Alpha does not ever do a bad job with this well-priced white. It's still beautiful in its herb-tinged flavor and character, with those classic, vegetal hints and that lingering finish. It seems pretty similar to the 2016, and they typically improve as the summer wears on. I have my doubts as to where this is going in the longer term, but it is hard to stop drinking it if you are a Sauvignon Blanc fan. That's worth leaning up a bit. Drink it on the younger side, but I've seen proof they can hold a few years."
Brilliantly, light yellow in color with greenish tints. Strong and lively nose, typical Sauvignon Blanc, suggesting gooseberry, passion fruits, melon, litchi with a note of honeysuckle. Round and mellow on the palate, quite fat balanced although, with plenty of finesse. Crispy and well structured, reminding the nose aromas with a hint of lime. A richly textured wine with superb length and balance. A classy wine with long finish and persistent aromas.
" The lineup from one of Greece's best wineries is exceptional this issue--and remarkably well priced, too. This group is a bargain-hunter's dream, each wine in the lineup competing for "best yet" from Alpha in the brand. Note, though, that they tend to be more Old World in style, if I can use a stereotype. There is always some power here and the crisp reds will show better with food. Earthiness and tension tends to win here over sweet and jammy. " ~ Winery notes
