"The 2021 Sauvignon Blanc is unoaked, dry and comes in at 13.52% alcohol. As with the Malagousia in this report, this seems like a Big Boybut on many fronts, not just ripeness. In bottle about three months when tasted, this showed off plenty of acidity, too, plus excellent depth and general power. It's focused and precise, not all that green this year but still possessed of some character. As with the Malagousia, it will be interesting to see how this holds. This held serve a few hours later, while the Malagousia did not, at least to some extent. For the moment, it looks like one of the most interesting offerings in the unoaked version of this brand."

Tasting Notes
Brilliantly, light yellow in color with greenish tints. Strong and lively nose, typical Sauvignon Blanc, suggesting gooseberry, passion fruits, melon, litchi with a note of honeysuckle. Round and mellow on the palate, quite fat balanced although, with plenty of finesse. Crispy and well structured, reminding the nose aromas with a hint of lime. A richly textured wine with superb length and balance. A classy wine with long finish and persistent aromas.

" The lineup from one of Greece's best wineries is exceptional this issue--and remarkably well priced, too. This group is a bargain-hunter's dream, each wine in the lineup competing for "best yet" from Alpha in the brand. Note, though, that they tend to be more Old World in style, if I can use a stereotype. There is always some power here and the crisp reds will show better with food. Earthiness and tension tends to win here over sweet and jammy. " ~ Winery notes

About Alpha Estate
Alpha Estate

Alpha Estate is located in the heart of the Amyndeon, a wine region in the Northwest of Greece. The estate's vineyards cover 65 hectares situated on a plateau between 620 and 710 meters above sea level. The soil is sandy clay, ideal for water drainage.

Alpha Estate is presided over by Angelo Iatridis, considered by many to be Greece's most promising winemaker. Angelo cultivates international varieties as well as indigenous Greek varieties, and all the wines are elaborated in Alpha's state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery.

"This winery has been considered to be a "comer" for awhile. It's fair to end that talk. They have arrived and are making terrific wines. They have their own style and the Amyndeon terroir is somewhat different than Naoussa, they say, which is the signature appellation for Xinomavro in Greece. Taking that all together, Alpha's wines are more refined and accessible than some of the more rustic versions of Xinomavro."
