"Bright ruby. Sexy, pure aromas of blackberry, cassis, boysenberry, pomegranate, licorice and violet, with a peppery element contributing to the impression of vinosity. Wonderfully sweet, plush and refined in the mouth; by far the suavest of this trio of wines under the Andrew Januik label. Terrific inner-mouth spicy lift to the glossy flavors of dark berries, violet and licorice. Finishes with harmonious tannins and subtle, slowly mounting length. With a moderate pH of 3.72, this wine is at once thick and vibrant, and built for a slow evolution in bottle. But it will probably also give pleasure earlier than the Lady Hawk.

James Suckling 93
"Some vanilla and pastry-like notes sit across ripe dark cherries and berries here. The palate has very plush, smooth and deeply flavored style with a fresh black-fruit finish that holds up well. Good concentration. A blend of 93% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot and 2% malbec. Drink or hold."

The Wine
This wine comes from Shaw, Obelisco, Quintessence, and Ciel du Cheval vineyards in the Red Mountain AVA. These particular vineyards always express the terroir of Red Mountain especially well. The rich soils, dependable air drainage, and limited rainfall result in highly concentrated berries with dense skins, rich inky color, and daring complexity. Aged 21 months in barrel, 55% new French oak. 585 cases produced.

The Estate
Januik Winery evolved from an intense desire to create wines that are among the best anywhere. Doing this requires two things. One is having access to the best grapes available, and the other is doing things on a very small scale. Utilizing his relationships with growers throughout the Columbia Valley, Mike Januik, former winemaker at Chateau Ste. Michelle, acquires the best grapes Columbia Valley has to offer and his small production winery achieves wines of great finesse and balance.

Mike’s son Andrew Januik, who started his own label in 2011, also puts his own on some high quality Cabernet fruit. These are the essence of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon without the price tag.
“Nobody in Washington State delivers more outstanding quality for the dollar than Januik Winery…unlike many of his winemaking brethren with much less to hang their hats on, Januik is not egocentric, reminding me of unpretentious hard working men like Claude Dugat, Jean-Francois Coche and Olivier Humbrecht” – P.Rovani (Wine Advocate 4/22/06)
