Sweet oak spice, cream, vanilla and white chocolate notes, toast, refined tannins. Beautifully harmonious wine with lovely freshness on the finish. Lovely lightness and freshness on the finish, and not at all heavy-handed. Andrea Briccarello: Clean, but with rustic and earthy notes. Beefy with wild berry fruits, great tannins and lots of blueberry. Charming and well poised. Annette Scarfe MW: Soft, opulent, plummy and ripe. Full-bodied with ripe tannins. Estate
The history of Italy cannot be told without including the prominent contributions of the Ricasoli family, who have produced wine since 1141. Ricasoli is documented as the oldest winery in Italy and the fourth oldest family business in the world. A beautiful illustration of the family tree in 1584 is one of the first images of the Chianti area and the family archives include export receipts dating back to the late 1600s. However, perhaps the most famous historical contribution came from Baron Bettino Ricasoli, who was not only twice the prime minister of Italy, but after 30 years of experimentation and documentation, developed the original formula for the Chianti wine that became the standard for the region.

Vinification
After racking, all three grapes are fermented in steel tanks for two weeks. Ageing takes place over 8-9 months in tonneaux of second and third passage.
About Barone Ricasoli
Brolio Castle, where Baron Bettino Ricasoli invented the Chianti formula in 1872, spreads over the communes of Gaiole and Castelnuovo Berardenga. A very diverse topography, the Ricasoli estate encompasses numerous valleys, hills, wooded areas of oak and chestnut trees, 235 hectares of vineyards and 26 hectares of olive groves, all which thrive on this unique variety of soil types and microclimates in this central Chianti area.

Francesco Ricasoli, the 23rd Baron of the Ricasoli family, has been at the helm of the family business since 1993 and has renewed the quality and personality of the estates wines by experimenting with new clones of sangiovese that are signi cantly raising the quality level of this area. New labels are coming into existence in addition to the wines that have been apart of the family for generations.

Give this a miss.
"A Thin, tongue-suckingly dry and astringent Tuscan. No fruit discernible. Disappointing, for sure."
