"The 2013 Proprietary Red Bedrock Vineyard Heritage comes from the Peterson family’s old vines planted between 1888 and 1895. Amazingly, there are over 22 interplanted varieties in this vineyard, with the bulk of it being 55% Zinfandel and 30% Carignane. The balance of 15% is composed of the other 20 varietals. There are 750 cases of this spectacular wine. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by notes of black raspberries, roasted Provençal herbs, pepper, strawberry jam, kirsch and blacker fruits. Full-bodied, heady, savory, broad and expansive, this fabulous wine showcases the remarkable blending and winemaking skills of Morgan Twain Peterson. Drink now-2024.

Morgan Twain Peterson continues to produce a fascinating array of wines from old vine sites throughout California. His 2012s demonstrated what a remarkable young talent he is, and the 2013s detailed below continue his Midas touch with a diversity of grapes as well as historical heritage sites."~Robert Parker

"Composed of the 22 interplanted varieties at Bedrock Vineyard the wine is roughly 55% Zinfandel, 20% Carignane, with the remainder being all the other cofermented things (Petite Sirah, Alicante Bouschet, Mourvedre, Grand Noir, Trousseau Noir, Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah, Tempranillo, Castets, etc. etc.). The fruit richness and power of the Zinfandel is framed by the acid, structure, and color brought by the other varieties. As always, I make this wine with an eye towards the past, when variety was secondary to wine-style, when it was endeavored to make “California Claret.” This is a singular effort and one that brings me great joy."~Winery Notes

"In the words of winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson: Bedrock Wine Co. firmly believes in the philosophy that “diversity is the spice of life.”

The wines I make are not limited to a single caste or single style. Rather, they reflect my own eclectic tastes and general feeling that a broad palate makes for more interesting gustatory experiences.

Bedrock is an itsy-bitsy winery making wine in a converted chicken coop. Fruit from only the most excellent vineyard sites is hand pitch-forked into the destemmer, fermented in open top redwood and stainless vats using only native yeasts, and are manually basket pressed by winemaker Morgan Twain-Peterson into the sexiest oak from the coldest French forests.

The winery’s objectives are:

To eschew varietal Zinfandel and instead make the truly California wine intended by our forefathers by field-blending Zin with plenty of Carignane for elegance, Petite Sirah for power, Alicante Bouschet for color, and the other mixed black varietals for interest and singularity from ancient vines grown in pretty spots.
To spread the gospel of Syrah in California by sourcing fruit from the great terroirs of Hudson Vineyard, Wildcat Mountain, Kick Ranch, Glenlyon, Old Lakeville and Bald Mountain.
To proclaim the greatness of Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon by sparing no expense on the few great sites that yield wines of uniqueness and personality.
To reclaim rose’ from the excesses of saignée and focus on precision, delicacy, aromatics, and food friendliness.
To make the greatest Bordeaux Blanc blend in California from low yielding Sauvignon Blanc and ancient vine Semillon.
To make California Pinot Noir that ages as well as ’74 Swan. To dream big but keep production low!"~Distributor Notes
