The Wine
Cabernet Sauvignon from Great Western is even better when the fruit is grown at the right sites. Warm north-facing sites tend to produce the best fruit. As is common in other regions, Cabernet Sauvignon in Great Western is picked late in the vintage season to allow for good fruit flavour and texture. More time on the vine results in a supple wine with intense varietal characteristics.

Colour: Dense inky garnet with deep magenta hue.

Bouquet: Rich berry aromas with some plum and blackcurrents in the mix. A background of cinnamon spice and nutty oak add complexity.

Palate: Lush and smooth dark fruit flavours with intense fruit tannins and a long rich finish.

The Estate
Founded in 1866, 2016 is Best’s 150th year, making it one of the oldest family wineries in the country and possessing some of the world’s oldest vines on own roots (Shiraz planted 1867 and Pinot Meunier planted 1868). Formerly known as the Great Western region, The Grampians lay at the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, where the region benefits from altitude and abundant sunshine days but suffers low rainfall. Best’s are particularly hailed for their Riesling, which ages wonderfully.
