Best's Great Western Riesling 2014
James Haliday 95+
"The mother vines of today’s vineyard are in the Nursery Block, plnated in 1866. An ultimately juicy lime essence burst of flavor on the palate will make the wine irresistible, and its Early consumption mock the long term cellaring potential."

"The 2014 Riesling Great Western has a pronounced nose of honeyed apricots, lime cordial and pink grapefruit with hints of jasmine and mandarin peel. Dry (10 grams per liter of residual sugar), light-bodied with a racy acid line cutting through the intense flavors, it finishes with wonderful persistence."

Vinous Media 91
"Bright straw. Fresh, mineral-laced lemon and pear aromas are joined by a faint emerging jasmine quality. Fleshy but dry and incisive, with vibrant quince and orange pith flavors underscored by strong chalky minerality. Shows very good focus and intensity on a long, mineral-driven finish, which leaves a suave floral note behind. -- Josh Raynolds"

Winemaker Notes
Colour of pale straw with a green and gold hue. The bouquet of lifted aromas of kaffir lime and honeysuckle with a background of red apple and musky spices. Palate is intense lime flavours with a slippery mouthfeel and a fresh mineral finish
About Bests Great Western
Founded in 1866, 2016 is Best's 150th year, making it one of the oldest family wineries in the country and possessing some of the world's oldest vines on own roots (Shiraz planted 1867 and Pinot Meunier planted 1868). Formerly known as the Great Western region, The Grampians lay at the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, where the region benefits from altitude and abundant sunshine days but suffers low rainfall. Best's are particularly hailed for their Riesling, which ages wonderfully.
