Bodegas Abanico 'Tempestad' Godello 2010
Wine Advocate 92
"The 2010 Tempestad Godello (100%) was fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel and aged sur lie for 3 months prior to bottling. It offers up an inviting bouquet of quince, melon, mineral, and floral notes. Rich, concentrated, and mouth-filling, it is likely to evolve for 1-2 years and provide enjoyment through 2016. It is an outrageously good value."~JM

"Light yellow-gold. Fresh nectarine and pear aromas are accented by spicy white pepper and mustard seed. Chewy, broad orchard and pit fruit flavors offer good depth and a late note of candied ginger. Finishes on a riper melon note, with impressive breadth and persistence."~JR

Wine Enthusiast 90
"Almond and mineral accents aid the nose on this fuller-bodied Godello that offers polished apple and peach flavors, a refined and complex mouthfeel and a long finish. Delivers quality for the price, so the value quotient is high. Serve with roast monkfish; paella."~MS

"The more I taste this north-west Spanish white wine variety, the more I love it." ~Jancis Robinson on Godello in "Glorious Godello"
About Bodegas Abanico Hazaña
Hazaña is a recently introduced custom cuvee made in partnership between Eric Solomon and Rafael de Haan. British born and educated, Rafael joined the UK wine trade in 2000, realizing early on that he would rather have a career closer to the vine. In 2001 he moved to Barcelona, brokered some wine and opened a tapas bar before he opened his first property, Bodegas Abánico, in Rioja with his partner Nuria Altes.

Named for the ancient poetic takes of heroism, Hazaña is made at Vinícola Real in the classical style of Rioja. The fruit comes from the vicinity of Logrono, where it grows at 500 meters above sea level on red clay and chalky limestone soils. A blend of Tempranillo with up to 15% Graciano, it is aged in French and American oak before released.
