"The 2009 Orben is unashamedly modern-styled, a little international, displaying notes of smoke and peat only the very best oak barrels are able to give. The fruit is ripe, more black than red, with plenty of spice aromas. The quality is very high but you’d need to wait to enjoy it at its best. Drink 2016-2020."

Wine & Spirits 90
"This needs age or plenty of air to show itself. The wine starts out reductive, with a burnt onion edge, but that disappears over the course of a day as the fruit-skin tannins begin to release hints of red berry flavor. Air encourages both the fullness and elegance of the wine to emerge, a smooth, lasting weave of black and red fruit."

Orben

Orben creates a new wine concept based on old vineyards in Rioja Alavesa. 74 micro parcels of Tempranillo in the surroundings of Villabuena and Laguardia. Careful selection of grapes and the best technology get together in order to find the essence of the Tempranillo from the region, running away from the most traditional styles in the benefit of fruit, modernity, personality and elegance.

EMPIRE STAFF REVIEW

Just in time for the cold!

"When looking for value in red wine, look no further than Rioja! Aged for 15 months in French oak, this certified organic 2009 Tempranillo delivers dark notes of mocha and vanilla mixed with some spice on the nose. On the palate, powerful but well integrated tannings mend together notes of black cherries and currant, which continue on to a long lasting finish. This is a wine begging to be drunk with food. Pair it with your favorite beef, lamb, or poultry dish!"
