Item Description

Vinous 92
Light yellow. Lively and sharply focused on the nose, displaying fresh citrus and orchard fruit scents and subtle vanilla and floral overtones. Shows sharp definition and spicy lift to the Meyer lemon, pear and honeysuckle flavors, which deepen through the midpalate. Closes long and juicy, with repeating florality and a dusty mineral flourish.

A straw-yellow color. It has a strikingly intense nose with floral aromas coming to the fore (white flowers, jasmine) together with notes of citrus fruit and apple peel. Complex and seductive. The entry on the palate is very supple with a sensation of ripeness. Interestingly though, on the rest of the palate a minerality and freshness comes though developing into a lively, crisp finish that also makes the wine a good partner for food.

A perfect pairing for grilled fish, shellfish and rice dishes, among others.

Denominacion de Origen: D.O.Ca. Rioja
Location: Barrio de la Estación, Haro, Rioja Alta
Varietal: 70% Viura, 20% Malvasia & 10% Garnacha Blanca
Vineyards: Estate vineyards (65%) and vineyards leased on long term contracts in the foothills of the Montes Obarenes in Rioja Alta.
Year(s) Planted: Between 1926 and 1986

Viticulture: Traditional Riojan viticulture that is sustainable and organic, but not certified. A blend of goblet trained and vineyards planted on high density trellises of Rioja's most classic white varieties. The vineyards are not irrigated and are farmed without the use of harmful chemically synthesized fungicides, pesticides or herbicides.

Soils: Calcareous clay and alluvial soils.

Climate: Continental with Atlantic influences.
Winemaking: Eight hour maceration in a pneumatic press, followed by fermentation (incoluated with neutral yeast) in 60% new French oak barriques and large upright vats. The barrels used for Muga Blanco are all coopered from French oak trees that are selected by the family every February. The staves are seasoned for a minimum of three years and up to five.

Aging: 5 months sur lie with battonage in the fermentation vessel.

A traditional barrel fermented white wine from Rioja, produced with a blend of the most important indigenous white varieties of the region. The wine is composed practically of all Viura and Malvasía, but there is a tiny quantity of Garnacha Blanca which adds complexity and aromatics. Typical and traditional in its blend and production, but unique in its higher levels of freshness and approachability at a young age compared to other whites from Rioja.
