“Muriel (founded in 1986) was created by Julian Murua from his father Jose’s winery, which itself dates back to 1926. The bodega is in the village of El Ciego in Rioja Alavesa – Muriel is a blend of
the two names. Today it’s Julian’s son, Javier, who runs the business. HE’s charming, efficient and business-like – all the qualities that have made him popular with the supermarkets and
wine merchants with whom he does much of this business. He and his winemaker Chema Ryan (formerly of Viña Real) know that there’s profit to be made in pleasing customers want: consistent
quality in both tradition and modern styles all at a great value.”~Winery Notes

The heart of the Rioja Alavesa
Proud of its winemaking tradition, the village of Elciego is one of the most famous and acknowledged villages of the Rioja Alavesa region. Behind the solid walls of its mansions, centuries of wine production wisdom have highlighted a vocation. Located near the river Ebro, Elciego has a distinctive contour, where the old part of the town lies in the shadow of the great church of San Andrés. It was here in the second half of the nineteenth century, that wine making commenced using the same process as is carried out today throughout the region.

"So far I have introduced this wine to few "wine" people and they all loved it. It is a great find for us. Two thumbs up."
