"DePaula Monastrell is a great value, and on that basis I'll give it five stars. Which is to say it's not "inspirational," but it's dependable and and has for several years been one of several 'about ten buck' wines that I keep on hand. It is a little different from year to year, as other reviewers have noted. But it's been good year in and year out. It's a big wine, very full bodied, with enough flavor and tannins to handle big foods ranging from tacos to lamb to spicy fried chicken, while being smooth enough to enjoy with crudites. Definitely worth a shot if you haven't tried it."
"Very good concentration, excellent fruit, smooth with really nice finish. $30/$40 boutique wine have hard time matching this in a BLIND tasting."
"I would still recommend this but the prior few vintages had more complexity that made them a trememdous value compared to comparable wines. The 2019 vintage is missing something. It's good but a bit more bland or washed out. . Don't know the reason but that's why each years vintage can be different from one another."
