Despite the name, Montepulciano dAbruzzo is in no way linked with the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The Tuscan wine is named after the town. While Montepulciano dAbruzzo is named after the varietal. The Montepulciano variety originated in the Valle Peligna in the Abruzzi, and was developed through selection by growers. It displays significant capacity for adaptation to different environments, resulting in its cultivation in nearby territories.
Deep ruby red color. The bouquet on the nose is intense, clean and pleasant with fresh aromas of black cherry, black berry, plum and followed by more complex notes of walnut-husk and some spices. On the palate it is well-balanced with agreeable tannins, good body and intense flavors. This line is named after the small village of Capestrano located in the heart of the Abruzzo region, at the foot of the Gran Sasso Mountains. The surrounding area of Capestrano tauts a special microclimate with warm days and cold nights. The Montepulciano varietal has been cultivated in this area for ages, and is still an important part of the regional agricultural economy. Capestrano seeks to contribute to the economic growth and the cultural development of the area by enhancing the specific character of the local Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. The line of affordable, accessible wines extends to Passerina, Verdicchio di Matelica and Rosso Piceno from Le Marche.

"This is what I would call a light red wine, similar in finish to maybe a Pinot Noir or a Sangiovese. It's somewhat fruity, without being sweet. I don't know much about pairing wines with food. As far as I'm concerned...this wine is perfect for any situation, with food or without! And it's a bargain at this price!"
