"Bright purple. Lively and spicy on the incisive nose, displaying intense black and blue fruit and floral scents and a hint of minerality. Silky and focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and berry skin flavors that deepen slowly with aeration. Closes silky and long, with gentle tannins adding shape and grip. This elegant wine drinks surprisingly well now after being open for an hour or so. -- Josh Raynolds"

"The 2014 Hito is an affordable young Tempranillo aged in barrels for eight months. Here they search for the expression of the fruit, a Tempranillo from a cool, high altitude zone of Ribera del Duero. The nose is quite showy and perfumed, mixing notes of violets and cherries with some roasted undertones, spicy, a little herbal, developing aromas of ash and incense with time. It's medium-bodied with a soft texture, and tender with polished tannins and moderate acidity, velvety, easy to drink. A benchmark Ribera at a very attractive price. 300,000 bottles produced."

Cepa 21 is the joint venture of the Moro family with some other partners. Here they want to produce fresh wines from north-facing, high-altitude vineyards where the vegetative cycle is longer. While in Emilio Moro the hierarchy is defined by vine age, here the definitive parameter is altitude. They have 25 hectares that were planted from their massale selection from the Emilio Moro Valderramiro vineyard in Castrillo de Duero. They are now in search of more concentration in the wines while keeping the elegance, and they have changed the labels to a cleaner style featuring the words Tempranillo and España, two concepts that they want to exploit in their wines.

Wine Information:
Cherry red colour covered with clear violets around the rim. The nose is very intense and complex. Red fruits of raspberry and strawberry, black ones of blackcurrant, mulberry and blackberry. Elegant fine oak, subtly toasted with notes of black licorice. Fleshy with sweet tannins that give volume, and with a long aftertaste.

Cepa 21The Moro family has been farming the same vineyards in the Ribera del Duero since 1932, the birth year of Emilio Moro (the patriarch) as well as the year in which the Finca Resalso vineyard was planted. For two generations, the grapes were sold on the bulk market. In 1988, current proprietor José Moro Espinosa invested the family's entire savings into winery equipment and Bodegas Emilio Moro was born. The bodega joined the D.O. Ribera del Duero in 1989 and quickly established itself as one of the region's leading producers of top quality wines. The winery is located at the top of a bend in the Duero River in the town of Pesquera del Duero, just to the Northwest of Peñafiel.
