James Suckling 95
This is very complex, with blackcurrants, tobacco and cedar. Some sandalwood and terra-cotta, too. Medium- to full-bodied
with ultra-fine tannins that are creamy-textured and so long and pure. Attractive and complex. James Suckling, October 2021

The 2019 Chappellet Signature Series Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic beauty. This wine excels with aromas and flavors of black fruit, earth, dust, and oak. Enjoy with grilled, well-aged beef. May 22, 2022, San Francisco, CA

Always a smoking value that readers shouldn't miss, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature sports a dense purple color to go with beautiful cassis and blueberry-like fruits as well as bouquet garni, spice, and obvious, rocky mineral-like aromas and flavors. Rich and medium to full-bodied, with notable structure and good acidity, it's going to keep for two decades in cold cellars. It's a candidate for the best Napa Cabernet under $100. Best After 2022

Wine Advocate 93
Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps with open-knit notes of warm cassis and plum preserves, plus hints of tobacco leaf, bouquet garni and cedar chest. The medium to full-bodied palate is firm and crunchy with bags of bright fruit and a grainy texture, finishing lifted.

Wine Spectator 93
Packs an alluring, winey feel, with a well of cassis and plum reduction laced with hints of cocoa, tobacco and singed cedar. Picks up a cast iron note on the finish, giving this just a bit of muscle as the fruit plays out.

The Wine
The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon has been our flagship wine for more than three decades. It is a benchmark for the long-lived hillside wines of the Napa Valley; full of structure and aging potential, yet seductively forward in its concentrated varietal character. The dry, rocky soils of Pritchard Hill produce small, intensely flavorful grapes. Crop thinning allows for full, even ripening and elevates flavor complexity.

Growing Season & Harvest
The 2019 growing season began with cool, rainy weather throughout winter and spring, which delayed budbreak slightly and resulted in a robust crop and vigorous canopies. To create the desired vine balance, we thinned leaves and clusters extensively, doing as many as three fruit-dropping passes depending on the needs of each vine. The weather remained temperate throughout summer, followed by perfectly timed warm weather in October. As a result, our early ripening grapes yielded wines with dazzling aromatics, lovely energy and pure, fresh flavors, while our later-ripening varieties provided gorgeous color and concentration, with supple tannins and rich, soaring flavors.

Tasting Notes
Luxuriously dark and concentrated, this wine displays alluring aromas of cassis, dark cherry, spiced plum, chocolate, and sweet baking spices, with hints of toasted oak, cardamom, clove and vanilla from French oak aging. On the palate, this wine is voluptuously full bodied, with a lavish structure and supple tannins framing the ripe dark berry and black currant flavors. As
it glides to a long resonant finish, sophisticated hints of espresso, cedar cigar box, anise and fresh herbs emerge, adding nuance and depth.

About Chappellet
The Chappellet family's romance with Pritchard Hill started more than four decades ago when Donn and Molly Chappellet first glimpsed its magnificent vista of forests and wildflower-filled meadows. Inspired by the notion that Bacchus loves the hills, the Chappellets followed the advice of renowned winemaker André Tchelistcheff and settled on Pritchard Hill's rocky slopes, becoming the first winery to plant vineyards exclusively on high-elevation hillsides. From these Pritchard Hill vineyards, the Chappellets have been crafting extraordinary, age-worthy wines since 1967.

Pritchard Hill's rugged terroir has become legendary for producing wines with great intensity and depth--qualities that define the world's finest Cabernet Sauvignons. As a result, Chappellet wines have consistently received the highest praise from critics, and are sought after by the world's premier collectors. Today, a second generation of the family has joined their parents in embracing the romance of Pritchard Hill. They are passionate about preserving the land and continuing what Donn and Molly began--making extraordinary wines.

In the winery, renowned winemaker Phillip Corallo-Titus--who has been guiding Chappellet's winemaking program since 1990--individually ferments and ages lots from numerous vineyard blocks to maintain their distinctive character. These lots benefit from an array of maceration and fermentation practices. Adding even more depth and complexity, Phillip has established a barrel program utilizing the finest barrels from elite coopers and forests.

With roots deep in the land, and a belief in constantly working to enhance the quality and character of Pritchard Hill's fruit, Chappellet has earned acclaim for making California's finest hillside Cabernet Sauvignons. The Chappellet portfolio also includes exceptional Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and the highly regarded Mountain Cuvée blend.
