The wine has a deep, pure and complex nose, offering aromas of red and black cherries, dark berries, herbal tones, an elegant earthiness that also points to violets and smoke. On the palate the wine is reasonably full-bodied, defined and complex, with a core of dark fruit, minerals and tannins, which lead to bright acidity and a long, balanced finish.

2021 Clos de la Roilette, is no different to previous vintages in that it's delicious immediately, but will also age beautifully and one to set aside a few bottles to explore in 10+ years!

It is 100% Gamay from vines around 40 years old and up, on heavy clay soils with relatively little granite and quite a lot of the iron-like mineral manganese. The farming is sustainable or lutte raisonnée. All vineyard work is by hand; the soils are worked only superficially, at most twice per year, to protect the roots of the older vines.

Vinification is a traditional, semi-carbonic Beaujolais style. The whole clusters are harvested by hand and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts in open-top concrete tank. Maceration lasts around 14 days, with a submerged cap rather than punchdowns. Sulfur use is quite minimal. The wine is aged in large, old oak foudres for about 9 months before bottling.
