Companhia Das Lezirias 'Tyto Alba' Red 2012
Wine Enthusiast 93
Cellar Selection
" Named after the barn owl (Tyto alba) that nests in the woods of the Lezirias estate, this has great tannins that give shape to the dense black fruits. With a powerful structure and so much of the Touriga Nacional perfumes, this is a wine for aging. Drink from 2018."

No flaws
"A truly wonderful wine. Intense color is deep red/purple and still looks young without any hint of bricking. Nose of black currants, plum spices and a touch of oak vanilla. Structure was fine, wrapped in smooth tannins and a long finish. Phenomenal QPR."

Well made and drink or hold
"I think Edward wrote a great review on this wine. My order of six bottles was a complete crapshoot, and both my girlfriend and I were amazed by the value. It is a rich wine, but with lots of nuance, tannin, and promise for the future, if you have any self discipline. Great wine for the money. I give it a 92-93."

Very tasty now, but more is in store...
"Great color, but is not a simplistic fruit bomb as the color may imply. Wonderful range of flavors and great long finish -- but still with a nice tannic bite, which to me feels like this wine will be even better with a few more years in bottle. In this price range, incredible value. We had with a spicy pasta and it stood up just fine. Then again with a very rich pungent cheese and it proved a perfect compliment, cutting right through the cheese's creaminess and balancing the barnyard cheese flavors (a wonderful Gose-washed cow cheese from Vermont) with sharp dry fruit."
