Allen Meadows 92
"Discreet but not invisible oak influence frames the white and yellow orchard fruit nose that displays background notes of honeysuckle and orange peel. The concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess fine complexity on the intensely mineral-driven and long finish. This is also very good if perhaps not quite as deep as the Les Crays though this may very well change in time. 2018+ 89-92 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com"
This parcel is situated at 350m altitude on white limestone soil. The wine is matured in barrels with 20% new wood each year, during 12 months. After racking it is matured 2 months in tanks. These 40 year old vines provide a superb minerality. The wine proves to be rich and fruity thanks to its powerful and long finish.
“Daniel Barraud is without question one of the finest growers in all of the Mâconnais, and there is a credible argument to be made that his remarkable consistency vaults him right to the very top of the list.” --Allen Meadows (AKA Burghound)
“For anyone seeking an introduction to the heights of Mâcon, Domaine Barraud would be near the top of my list.” –Wine Advocate August 2013
Daniel Barraud’s wines bring to life like none other the best terroirs of the Maconnais. The combination of richness, precision, and minerality in his wines is consistently remarkable. He works 100% organically (and only now considering actual certification), harvests all of his parcels by hand, and bottles without fining or filtration. With the exception of the Macon-Chaintré, these wines are all barrel-aged, with varying percentages of new oak depending on the vineyard, but the oak plays a supporting role and is always beautifully integrated. These are truly greater and more interesting than the vast majority of wines from blue-chip Cote d’Or terroirs!
