More complex and earthy than 2018. From 30-year-old sandy tuffeau soils, aged 12 months on lees in 500-liter barrels, then four months in tank. Expressive, savory nose of dried herb and black olive. Dark and chewy on the palate, though with fresh, ripe plum and tomato, and notes of espresso and even a hint of bitter chocolate, then a long, silky finish of pepper and wet stone. Serious, textured and a very good-value Cabernet Franc.
As opaquely named lieux-dits go, Chiens-Chiens ranks near the top of the list. This site has borne this puzzling name for as long as anyone can remember, and what, Dogs-Dogs could have originally meant is pure conjecture. What it means today however, is an elegant Chinon from sandy tuffeau soils sporting dark-fruit flavors and a silky texture hardly what wed call a dog.
