"The 2011 Grande Reserva is a blend of 50% Alicante Bouschet (from 60+-year-old-vines), 25% Syrah, 15% Petit Verdot and 10% Touriga Nacional, aged for 12 months in new French oak. This has intriguing complexity, perhaps its best feature. The Syrah and the Alicante combined give this some nuances of game and beef. Bright and lifted, it also has a very elegant feel, some old-school finesse. It is surprisingly transparent and perhaps a bit lighter this year than in 2010. The tension and power on the finish show that this is built to age, though. Impeccably balanced, it can still be drunk now if you wish, but it has the potential to improve. At first, I wasn't sure I liked this anywhere near as much as the wonderful 2010. After 90 minutes of air, it seemed to be getting closer. I'd still like to see this with a couple of years more of age on it, so let's be a bit conservative just now. No matter what, though, you won't be disappointed."

"This rich and powerful wine offers dark tannins, great concentration and bold black fruits. Wood aging has added both spice and a smooth texture. The wine comes from a good vintage and although it is ready to drink will repay aging; drink now and until 2023."
