Item Description

Vinous Media 92
“This wine, nicknamed Steinbock, originates in parts of the Bockstein deemed well-suited to neither Grosses Gewchs nor Kabinett. Its another instance at this estate of a Riesling that signals stoniness on the nose, in this instance accompanied by a whiff of fusel oil as well as by intimations of apple, pear and lime that go on to dominate a glossy, satiny palate. The hint of sweetness is restrained but supportive, adding to the appeal of a buoyant, bell-clear, brightly persistent and infectiously juicy finish to which a mussel-like combination of maritime salinity and meatiness adds mouthwatering savor. (Incidentally, this harbors 9.3 grams acidity: no deficiency here!)” ~D.S.

Dr. Fischer Ockfener

View all from Dr. Fischer Ockfener
Dr. Fischer OckfenerA passion for Riesling was the inspiration for a first ever joint venture between vintners from Germany and Italy.

In March of 2014, vintner Nik Weis from Weingut St. Urbans-Hof on the Mosel and Martin Foradori Hofstätter from Tenuta J. Hofstätter in Alto Adige grasped the welcome opportunity to launch their project on the Mosel.

A "Bock" is an ibex--a wild mountain goat in German, and "Stein" is a rock; the name reflects the fact this animal inhabits the steep slopes on the Mosel's vineyards. It's also a play on word with " Bockstein", the fame vineyard where they own vines.

The grapes for this Riesling are sourced from selected vineyards exclusively in the Mosel Valley. This Riesling is an outstanding introductory wine in the fabulous world of Mosel Riesling and the Prädikatswein from Dr. Fischer.

The wine is off-dry with 32g/l of sugar, very aromatic with great crisp acidity and a long finish.

EMPIRE STAFF REVIEW

5 stars isn't enough!

"An impressive bottle for the price range. With notes of gravel, slate and hints of petrol on the nose it is backed by an intricate structure. Pops of lime and citrus are accompanied with tart apples and sweet pears. A perfect balance of acid and sweetness. This would be a great addition on your Thanksgiving table, right next to a sausage stuffing or a sweet potato dish."
