"This has all the hallmarks of an expert Sauvignon Blanc master negotiating the ripeness and pungency of this variety with extreme precision. This is next level Sauvignon Blanc that will appeal to novices and connoisseurs alike. Pop and pour!"

In 2019 we happened to stumble upon a 32 year old block of bush vine Sauvignon Blanc in Stellenbosch. The elevation, wind and vine age all pointed in the right direction and after a bit of experimentation, Salt River Sauvignon Blanc was born. We fell in love with the wine and vineyard and decided to create a brand and style separate from the rest of the Savage Range. Salt River is in the heart of the city of Cape Town, reminiscent of Shoreditch in London a few years back. It also happens to be the home of Savage Wines. The Sauvignon Blanc fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks, concrete eggs and old barrels. The wine spends four months in these vessels before being bottled, followed by a further two months in bottle prior to release. Flavours of yellow fruit and citrus with lovely mineral tension and a fresh saline finish. While Salt River Sauvignon Blanc will age beautifully in bottle over the next few years, the idea is to pull the cork and enjoy.

Duncan SavageDuncan Savage, previously the winemaker at Cape Point Vineyards, introduced his own label in 2011 with a goal to produce rock-solid, classic and elegant wines. Through his time at Cape Point, Duncan grew to understand maritime vineyards, which led him to source grapes for Savage wines from maritime and high altitude sites around the Western Cape. These small, hand-selected parcels receive a lot of love and attention throughout the growing season. Each vineyard's unique terroir contributes in its own special way to the blends. Savage wines are inspired by the great older reds from South Africa and abroad that have stood the test of time, and are made with gentle extraction, minimal intervention, and moderate alcohol.
