"Already bottled, as it's a wine they sell quite fast, the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc Coastal EQ has seen a gradual increase in the percentage of wine that is fermented outside of stainless steel; some 20% of the volume is fermented in oak barrels (12%) and egg-shaped cement vats (10% in this 2015). The fruit comes from Casablanca from the last vineyard they planted in the Vallehermoso vineyard, close to the sea (some 12 kilometers) -- a windy and flat place that has great influence for the sea and gives less fruit (same number of bunches, but smaller), so it's naturally more concentrated. They search for a citric and herbal character with a topical hint, with notes of lime, grapefruit and gooseberries; it is clean in a style that focuses on the texture and the volume, nicely compensated by freshness and a finish with mineral, salty hints. Again, this is great coastal Sauvignon at bargain prices. 72,000 bottles produced."
"Matetic work in the San Antonio Valley, one of the cold climate zones where they were one of the first to produce Syrah. I met with winemaker Julio Bastías to taste through the portfolio of chiseled, delineated and pure wines with great acidity from their biodynamically farmed vineyards. They own 150 hectares of vines certified by Demeter spread in three different locations, where the soils are granitic but with different forms of granite. The focus is on the vineyard work, getting their soils alive and understanding and separating the wines by soil. These are cool climate, fresh, mineral wines. 600,000 bottles in total."

The story of the Matetic Winery began in 1999 when the Matetic family decided to diversify their business ventures and enter the world of wine. Confident in the virtues of the climate and soils in the Rosario Valley, they planted 222 acres of vineyards. The Matetic vineyards are located in the Rosario Valley, a subdivision of the San Antonio Valley. This completely enclosed valley is perpendicular to the ocean and features ideal climatic and topographic conditions for both red and white wines. The vineyards are certified organic by CERES GmbH and follow Biodynamic practices as well. All wines are hand-picked and estate bottled. The EQ stands for Equilibrium...balance - the focus of this line is to balance of the vineyards, the winemaking and the environment.
