"Silver yellow color with greenish hues. On the nose, this Sauvignon Blanc displays herbaceous notes such as tomato leaves, a subtle green chili aroma along with citrus notes that reminds of tangerine peel and lemon peel. The palate reveals citrus and herbal notes that combine to create a very refreshing and crispy composition. Good persistence, excellent acidity that adds verticality to the wine, enhancing its most refreshing profile."
Don Maximiano Errazuriz founded Vina Errazuriz in 1870 in the Aconcagua Valley, 65 miles north of the capital, Santiago. Recognizing that this valley, with its hot, dry summers and moist Pacific Ocean breezes, was ideal for growing grapes, Don Maximiano sent for the finest clones from France and with tenacity and perseverance transformed this barren land into a worldclass vineyard. Today, the tradition of quality lives on with Don Maximiano's descendant, Eduardo Chadwick.
The grapes were sourced from the Manzanar vineyard, located just 7.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The vines are planted at an altitude of 100 to 200 328 to 656 feet above sea level. The clay-loam soil is 30 cm deep, with a stratum of clay and metamorphic rock (schist) underneath. These unique features are ideal for growing cold climate grape varieties.
To maintain the wine's aromatic potential, most of the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks at 1215C (5459 Farenheit) using yeasts specially selected to highlight aromatic compounds at low temperatures. Special care was taken at each stage of the process to prevent the grapes and juice from coming into contact with oxygen, to preserve natural fresh fruit aromas. The batches were aged on the lees for 3 months to enhance texture and volume on the palate.
The challenging vintage of 2017 performed different scenarios through the season, with a cool spring and a warmer than average summer. A rainy and cool October was followed by pleasant spring days in November, promoting a healthy flowering and fruit set. At the beginning of the summer, temperatures gradually increased reaching higher than the historical averages. February was warm, with oncoming sunny weather interspersed with cool morning fog, prevailing through to the end of the growing season. All of these conditions delivered wines of outstanding vivacity and character.
MAX Sauvignon Blanc comes from oneh of Chile's newest DOs, Aconcagua Costa, close to the Pacific Ocean. First planted by Errazuriz in 2005, no vineyards existed in the area before that time. This cool climate region fosters the development of high acidity, resulting in a Sauvignon Blanc with fresh, juicy acidity and bracing minerality, full of citrusy lime and grapefruit flavors.
