Our Estate Chardonnay comes from a unique section in the south block of Seven Springs. The wine underwent whole cluster pressing before being racked to once-used French barriques and Stockinger puncheons (500L) for fermentation. The wine remained in barrel for 12 months when it was racked to tank. The wine completed levage in tank for another 6 months before bottling. The Seven Springs Chardonnay was cold stabilized and lightly fined with bentonite clay before bottling. The 2017 Seven Springs Chardonnay shows the classic proportions of a balanced vintage. The aromatics straddle the line between richness and brightness and the palate begins with a generous texture and closes with a vibrant, delineated finish.
We are, first and foremost, faithful stewards of the historic Seven Springs vineyard, planted by Oregon wine pioneer Al MacDonald in 1984. On this dramatic east-facing slope, in the iron-rich and rocky, volcanic soils of the Eola-Amity Hills, Al MacDonald undertook what would become one of Oregons most recognized vineyards. Nestled against a forest of Douglas fir with views eastward to Mt. Hood and Mt. Jefferson, it is immediately evident to any visitor why Al chose this site. Seven Springs eastern exposure ensures the vineyard awakens to the warmth of the morning sun. The vineyards position opposite the windy Van Duzer Corridor, mitigates hot, sunny afternoons in the Willamette Valley with cool winds from the Pacific. As valley temperatures increase throughout the day, warm air rises, replaced by cooling winds flooding in from the Pacific through the Van Duzer gap and across our vineyard. This daily cooling, along with our eastern aspect, affords our grapes the luxury of extended time on the vine.
Since its inception, Seven Springs has been dry-farmed. The vineyard is LIVE certified and was converted to biodynamic viticulture in 2007. We continue to farm Seven Springs biodynamically, encouraging a healthy and sustainable ecosystem in the vineyard.
Seven Springs is planted overwhelmingly to Pinot Noir, followed by Chardonnay, and Gamay. The oldest own-rooted blocks of Pinot Noir and Gamay are a testament to, and daily reminder of, Oregons incredible history and potential. Benchmark Oregon producers have long sourced fruit from Seven Springs and the wines from this vineyard are the most decorated and award-winning wines in Oregons history.

The Evening Land has long been a symbol of the dream quest to find the mythical Greek garden where the golden fruits of immortality grew – tethered to the setting sun on the western rim of the unknown world – just beyond the reach of mortals. Inspired by the myth, the journey began to find the "perfect vinegarden" along the coastal world in which exceptional Pinot Noir, Gamay Noir and Chardonnay grapes could grow.
Situated in the southeastern Eola-Amity Hills, Evening Land's Seven Springs Vineyard is dry-farmed using biodynamic practices. The Pacific Ocean Breeze, volcanic soil, eastern exposure and high elevatin contribute to the natural preservation of the grapes' acidity and enrich the wines with elegant flavors and minerality. Sixty-five acres were initially planted in the early 1980s and has since expanded to cover seventy acres of land.
At Evening Land, the goal is to explore great terroir and reflect that greatness in every bottle that is produced. This begins in the vineyard with a constant stewardship of the land. Evening Land strives to make wines that reflect only the essence of the vineyard – the unique conjunction between a place, nature and time. Nothing is added; nothing is removed. The winemakers practice precision viticulture and let the land express itself, and they embrace the unique character of every vintage.
