Wine Enthusiast 90
“This Pinotage-based blend, with 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot, is fruit-loaded right from the start. A smoky overlay sits atop the core of ripe blackberry, plum and boysenberry fruit. The fruity richness dominates the medium-weight palate as well, with secondary notes of earth, sweet smoke, licorice and cocoa that unfold on the finish. Drink now–2020. Best Buy.”

Where the big guns roar
Kanonkop derives its name from the "kopje" (hill) from which a cannon was fired to alert surrounding farmers of trading ships stopping in Cape Town. This was some 300 years ago, but the farm continues to reverberate with the sounds of success achieved through their award-winning wines. Fourth generation estate proprietors, Johann and Paul Krige, have one simple aim: to maintain their "First Growth" status. And with wines such as their famous Pinotage and Paul Sauer consistently being recognized as some of the best reds on the market, their acclaim is well deserved.
