Knez Winery 'Demuth' Pinot Noir 2010
Wine Advocate 93
"Dark red cherries, flowers, dried herbs, licorice and spices all flesh out in the 2010 Pinot Noir Demuth. A wine of pure depth and volume, the 2010 stands out for its rich, creamy personality. At the same time, the 2010 remains weightless and gracious from start to finish. This is another utterly captivating wine from Knez. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020.

"Dark red cherries, flowers, dried herbs, licorice and spices all flesh out in the 2010 Pinot Noir Demuth. A wine of pure depth and volume, the 2010 stands out for its rich, creamy personality. Knez is a new project being headed by proprietor Peter Knez and winemaker Anthony Filiberti of Anthill Farms. The wines are made with native yeasts and see fairly low levels of new oak, around 30-35%, in other words, very much the same style Filiberti pursues at Anthill. Based on these three wines, it certainly appears Knez is one of the most exciting new entrants on the Sonoma Coast. It will be interesting to see where things go in the coming years, especially as Knez’s Estate vineyard in Anderson Valley comes online with the 2012 harvest." ~AG

"(made with 50% whole clusters): Light red. Pungent, powerful aromas of candied red fruits and spicecake, with a suave floral nuance gaining strength with aeration. Juicy and penetrating, offering sweet raspberry and cherry flavors that combine power and vivacity. Closes with excellent clarity and focus, leaving floral and mineral notes behind."

" An airy nose of briary red cherries, orange peel, and forest floor. With time, the aromas turn more floral and are complicated by nuances of cacao and strawberry seed. Open, elegant and very pretty flavors match the nose. Currently more accessible than the Cerise but will continue to become more expressive over time. Chambolle to Cerise's Gevrey.

This stunning patch of land was planted 30 years ago by the Demuth family. Deeper topsoil leads to sturdy, healthy vines that produce complex flavor profiles. Two blocks of Pinot, totaling seven acres, are planted to Wadenswil and Pommard clones. The Chardonnay, totaling eight acres, is entirely comprised of old Wente clone. The age of the vines enable the vineyards to be dry farmed to improve sustainability." ~ Winery notes
About Knez Winery
Knez Winery makes impressive cool climate, high elevation Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley's Grand Cru sites Cerise & Demuth. Peter and Heidi Knez purchased Cerise and Demuth vineyards in 2007. Knez farms organically and and is transitioning to Biodynamics. Grapes are picked on the earlier side to preserve the freshness and balance, and undergo natural fermentation for about three weeks with 30-100% whole cluster efore being drained by gravity directly to barrel. The wines are never wracked until bottling, sulfur additions are very low.
