"The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is beautiful. A large-scaled, opulent wine, the 2007 captures the personality of the vintage while retaining fabulous balance and proportion. Layers of dark fruit, mocha, spices and new leather build effortlessly to the huge, palate staining finish. This is a fabulous showing. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."
Andrea Mantengoli is a producer whose star is clearly on the rise. These new releases from Mantengoli are all standouts.

"I like the spices, berries and hints of wet earth on the nose. Dried plums, too. Full-bodied, with amazingly intense, exotic, decadent fruits. Velvety-textured and very flavourful. Gorgeous, sexy style to this. Best wine ever from here. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.”
"Andrea Mantengolis family has owned the original La Serena property since 1933. In 1988 Mantengoli began estate bottling and proceeded to grow the estate from 1 to 8.5 HA. His is currently in the conversion process to become certified organic and should be complete by the 2013 vintage. La Serena is aged exclusively in 20 HL French oak for 24 months. " ~ Winery notes
The zone of production, Torrenieri, is in the northeast corner of Montalcino at about 400 meters above sea level. The soil here is similar to the Pertimali/Montosoli Cru areas, but is slightly less compact, providing wines with structure but perhaps more approachability in their youth than their neighbors. With Enologist Paolo Caciorgna at the helm, the estate is in great hands.
Vineyard Practices: La Serena practices organic and biodynamic viticulture. Grass is grown between the rows, and beneficial insects have been introduced to the property. After harvest, the vine shoots are collected and composted to be used as organic fertilizer. There is absolutely no usage of chemical herbicides or fertilizers.
