About the Winery:

Chteau de Malleret dates back to the 17th century and was founded by Pierre de Malleret, who was knighted for his distinguished service as equerry to King Louis XIV. The property was later purchased by a well-known trader, Phillipe Frederic Clossman, whose descendants still tend the vineyards today. This historic estate, complete with a real castle, symbolizes all the elegance and distinction of the greatest Bordeaux vineyards and is recognized for producing premium Bordeaux blends. The estate is surrounded by 290 hectares of parkland, and some of the vineyards are surrounded by horse racing tracks, dating from now-defunct English style breeding stables on the premises.

The grapes come from three 20-hectare plots of vines in the Haut-Mdoc, which are 25 to 30 years old. The estate also owns a small (3.5 hectare) plot of Margaux, but this is usually bottled separately. The soil is mostly sand mixed with gravel. Viticultural practices are tailored to each parcel individually and include the use of sustainable pest control. The space between rows of vines is sown with cereal crops to help with soil drainage. The fruit is harvested and sorted by hand, before seeing a 3 or 4 day pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation takes place in temperature controlled steel tanks and lasts for three or four weeks before the wine is racked into barrels.
