"Andy Erickson's Leviathan is gorgeous once again in 2013. Plump, juicy and forward, the 2013 packs a serious punch. Still it is impossible not to notice that this year Leviathan is made in a more aromatic, lifted style than in the past, when the wine has been much more bombastic. Readers looking for a supple, exuberant Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine that requires little cellaring should check out the 2013 Leviathan."-AG
"On the heels of smooth sailing in the 2012 vintage, Leviathan found themselves in favorable seas again. In 2013, still waters ran deep: a warm, dry spring gave way to early budbreak, balanced canopies and small berries. The intensity of the small berries— and excellent juice-to-skin ratios— reminded them of the profundity of the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean, where Leviathan is truly at home. Leagues above on the water’s surface, they were able to work the lines, set the sails, and ultimately capture the potential of this epic vintage.
The result of their enological voyage is a wine as American as baseball, and as Yogi Berra would have said, "It’s like deja vu all over again." Find yourself with steady legs in port, and a bountiful glass brimming with aromatics of cigar box, brambly fruit and cacao. The palate gives way to an even-keeled expression of cherries, violets, umeboshi, savory tannins and licorice. In no time, you will be waxing sailor lore with the best of them! And reaching for more, hand over fist!"-Winemaker's Notes
