Tasting Panel 93
This bottling is only produced in the finest vintages from old vines. Earth, cedar, and black tea are deep and shadowy on the nose, while high acidity dries the palate with wisps of slate and desiccated rose petals. Its regal with tremendous energy and a sense of gravitas.-TP

A deep nose with solid berry aromas, oak and spice is what you'd expect from a reserva from this reliable bodega. Full tannins make for a rubbing mouthfeel, while this tastes of berry fruit and distant chocolate. Savory flavors take over on a heavy, tannic finish. Drink through 2024.-WE
Founded in 1970, with its first release in 1975, Marqus de Cceres the Rioja bodega was established by Henri Forner, whose family has been active in the wine business for generations. The winery is named for a Spanish peer who was also an investor in the winery and a friend of Henri Forner.
The Forner family fled Spain during the Spanish Civil War and settled in France. In the early 1960s, Henri Forner and his brother Elyse bought and restored two abandoned chteaux, Chteau Camensac and Chteau Larose-Trintaudon. These chteaux are now recognized as two of the finest properties in Bordeaux. When Henri decided to establish a bodega in his homeland, he selected what he considered the finest viticultural area in Spain: Cenicero in Rioja Alta.
Emile Peynaud, former professor and chief wine researcher at the University of Bordeaux, was initial consultant to the winery. Today, Michel Rolland is wine consultant at Marqus de Cceres and Henri and his daughter, Christine, are at the helm. The vinification methods at Bodegas Marqus de Cceres are similar to those used in Bordeaux. Thus, French winemaking techniques and expertise have been applied to native Spanish grapes to produce one of the finest modern Riojas.-Winery Notes

In 1970, Enrique Forner founded Marqués de Cáceres, Unión Vitivinícola, S.A., a historic Alliance between a region (Cenicero, La Rioja Alta), an enterprising family that has been devoted to the wine trade for five generations, the best vine growers and vineyards in La Rioja and a Bordeaux concept which revolutionised the production and business model with a single objective: the quality to obtain the best wines, an obsession that today continues to be the leitmotif of Cristina Forner, the fifth generation of this distinguished wine family.
