"Matanes lush, spicy aromas suit the dazzling landscape of Salento: russet soil steeped in Mediteranean sunligh, constantly windswept by the salty air currents of two seas. The wine is 100% Primitivo, from the ancient native grape thus named for its early ripening. Very deep ruby with violet reflections, the intense fruity bouquet of plums, cherries, rosemary, vanilla and spice is confirmed on a full, mellow, well-balanced and silky palate of great finesse adn appeal." ~ Winery notes

great Primitivo

"Big aroma, ripe rich fruit, long lasting flavor."

Italian Secret

"Came across Primitifvo (Italian equivalent of Zinfindel grape) some years ago and my wife and I liked it, I mean, really liked it. Found our way to Matane and we liked it even more than our first tasting (different producer). Goes well with many foods, but we especially like it with Italian. Proof that delicious wines don't have to be expensive and only come in corked bottles."

Unsung Italian red

"Italy may be known for Chianti and Sangiovese but Primitivo is a great medium body red with a bright cherry bouquet and plenty of raspberry and fruit on the finish. This is Italy's answer to Zinfandel but in my opinion a totally different wine from CA Zin. Great price for a wonderful bottle of wine."
