"The 2016 Molettieri Aglianico takes some time to open up, showing only hints of white smoke with savory herbs up front; yet the longer it sits in the glass, the more perfumed and expressive it becomes, as notes of dried roses, cherry, and undergrowth form. Silky textures flood the senses with dark ripe fruits, as cooling acids and mineral tones create a crunchy, tactile feel. The finish is long with a staining of black fruit and savory spice, as subtle tannins tug at the palate. The 2016 comes across as quite young today, already enjoyable, but the best is yet to come. -- Eric Guido"

Tasting Notes
"Bright red. Sexy, pure aromas of raspberry, flowers and sweet spices, lifted by a whiff of violet. Sweet, spicy and intense in the mouth, offering savory, vibrant berry, floral and mineral flavors. Boasts lovely fruitiness and suave mineral nuances on the long, juicy finish. Outstanding wine at this level of quality (this is essentially Molettieris entry-level red). "

The Wine
100 Aglianico grown in calcareous clay soils. Maceration on the skins 10-12 days in steel, followed by six months of aging in second use barrique and an additional ten months of aging in large Slavonian oak casks. The wine is then finished in the bottle for six months before release. 1,250 cases produced.

The Estate
Salvatore Molettieri, the talented owner of the estate, comes from an old farming family and manages his estate together with his son Giovanni, a trained oenologist. The first wine was bottled with the 1988 vintage and their sustainably-farmed vineyards now extend for thirteen hectares in Montemarano, historically one of the two finest crus of the appellation. At 550 meters altitude, perfect ripening here occurs in the first week of November, yielding wines of powerful authority and concentration. The average total production of the estate is approximately 5,500 cases per year.
