"(all tempranillo; aged for a year in new French oak): Dark purple. Exotically perfumed aromas of fresh dark berries, toasty oak, incense and fresh flowers, with a mineral element adding vivacity. Vibrant cherry and blackberry flavors show very good clarity, gaining in sweetness and depth with air. Fresh, spicy and nicely concentrated for the vintage, finishing smoky, spicy and long, with fine-grained tannins."

"This red shows black cherry, licorice and mineral flavors, with leafy and smoky notes that mingle on the polished palate. Balanced and fresh, with moderate tannins and balsamic acidity. A savory style. Drink now through 2021. 2,000 cases imported."

"Obalo is a consistently very good to excellent example of Rioja crianza. This is full and oaky up front, with tobacco, vanilla and briary black-fruit scents. A flush, voluminous palate is balanced and delivers earthy blackberry and chocolate flavors in front of a lively finish with a touch of buttery oak. Drink through 2019."
"Following Obalo’s modern style, this potent and structured wine has been subtly rounded by having quietly aged in oak for 12 month. The oak is perfectly integrated in this wine that maintains the fruity aromas typically associated with Tempranillo and in this line is faithful to its Riojan essence.
Bright red in colour. This vintage particularly shows the intensity and elegance of dark ripe blackberries, violets and spices. On the palate it is balanced and presents us with juicy dark berry and cherry flavours along with a firm mineral backbone. It has a vibrant and velvety mouthfeel followed by a long and focused finish"

Bodegas Obalo was born in 2006 in the heart of the Sierra de Cantabria, a region that starts in two called the Rioja Alavesa and was considered a perfect setting for the unbeatable quality of its vineyard.
The privileged location in what could be considered the best wine region in Spain , both because of its location sheltered from the Sierra de Cantabria, as well as its soils , also joins the continuous search for complicity with the winemakers of the area . All these are factors that are decisive for the achievement of the main objective of Bodegas Obalo, which is to produce the great wines that this unique land is capable of giving.
The winery is located right on the border of La Rioja Alta, although most of its vineyards are distributed by the Rioja Alavesa. The modern architecture of harmonious square lines and practical and innovative installations reveal the youthfulness of this winery that, nevertheless, does not lose sight of Rioja's wine tradition from which it drinks through the close relationship it maintains with the vine growers of the area. .
From its viewpoints you can also see the privileged place in which it is framed, with a unique landscape of imposing rocky mountain to the north and a sea of vineyards to the south.
