"Dark red cherry, plum, smoke, new leather, tobacco, cloves and mocha meld together in the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain. Rich, ample and textured, the 2012 is full of intensity. The contours are quite soft, though, which makes the 2012 unusually gentle and tamed for a young Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. The radiant, explosive finish alone is hugely appealing. In 2012, winemaker Sean Capiaux used all seven Bordeaux varieties in the blend. -- Antonio Galloni"

"Composed of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Malbec and a handful of other varietals, The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain exhibits an opaque purple color as well as abundant aromas of wet gravel, lead pencil shavings, blueberries and mulberries, a dense, opulent, full-bodied mouthfeel, sweet tannin and a terrific texture and finish. Drink this impressive effort over the next 15-20 years. Betty O’Shaughnessy, with the help of winemaker Sean Capiaux, continues to turn out some marvelous Cabernets."

In 1996 after years of searching, Betty O'Shaughnessy Woolls and Paul Woolls began what today is known as the O'Shaughnessy Estate Winery. This event was solidified by the acquisition of land in Howell Mountain, Mt. Veeder and Oakville. Today these seasoned vineyards yield quality fruit that reflects the effort of the O'Shaughnessy team; a process beginning in the mid-nineties resulting with their first bottling in 2002. Winemaker Sean Capiaux crafts wines in a nuevo style, classic wines with modern implements, specializing in Cabernet Sauvignon with supportive roles played by other Bordeaux varieties; Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec, Carmenere, St. Macaire, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. From inception, the process of meticulous clonal selection and site location has resulted in rich, complex wines that will continue to evolve for many years to come.
