"Coming from the Pisoni vineyard and vines planted in 1990, the 2017 Pinot Noir Le Moulin Rouge reveals a ruby/purple color as well as a bright, racy style in its raspberry, flower, and wet stone-like aromas and flavors. Give bottles 3-4 years and it’s going to evolve for over a decade."

"The 2017 Pinot Noir Le Moulin Rouge Pisoni Vineyard is an attractive, pliant Pinot with tons of near to medium-term immediacy. There is plenty of the signature Peter Michael raciness, even if the Moulin Rouge doesn’t quite have the energy or vibrancy of the Sonoma Coast Pinots. Then again, we are at the southern edge of the Santa Lucia Highlands here. Winemaker Nick Morlet has coaxed a great deal of elegance, freshness and finesse from this site, where the wines are often a bit bigger. -- Antonio Galloni"

"The 2017 Pinot Noir Le Moulin Rouge Pisoni Vineyard is medium ruby-purple in color with a nose of warm black cherries, red plums and black raspberries with touches of black tea, tobacco, red roses and dusty soil. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant and refreshing with fine-grained tannins and an earthy finish. 543 cases are expected to be made."

The Wine
This powerful, complex and rich Pinot is made from grapes grown by the Pisoni family, exceptional growers in the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey County. It is a wine we have been very pleased to offer for over 20 years. Le Moulin Rouge is the only wine in our portfolio made from grapes that are not estate grown.

Le Moulin Rouge was named in honor of the infamous Parisian nightclub, as well as a certain toast that has been given by Sir Peter, who has been known to good-humoredly roast himself and his friends as questionable characters of dubious repute.
The Estate
Peter Michael Winery needs no introduction. Year after year their exquisite, artisan releases bring pleasure to people all over the world, and it all started in 1982 when Sir Peter Michael founded the winery on a square mile of rocky volcanic ridges on the western face of Mount St. Helena. From the beginning, the philosophy was modeled on French winemaking tradition and governed by three principles: the vineyard terroir would be the single most important feature, the wines would be lightly elegant rather than powerful and a hundred-year commitment would be made to the development of a great estate.

Peter Michael is the only winery in Knights Valley. Its original winemaker was the famous Helen Turley, followed by Mark Aubert and Luc Morlet. Currently winemaking is under the leadership of Nicolas Morlet, Luc’s brother, whose extensive experience with Bordeaux and Burgundian style viticulture and winemaking lends itself well to the Peter Michael mission of producing single-vineyard, limited production bottlings from small, mountain vineyards.
